Europe Trip: Swizterland - Zermatt, Bern, Geneva

The city of Bern is the fourth most populous city in Switzerland. Despite that it is a city in Switzerland, the official language of Bern is German. In 1983 the historic old town in the center of Bern became a UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and Bern is ranked among the world’s top ten cities for the best quality of life.

What is so special about Bern? Since the 16th century, the city has had a bear pit. The extended and renewed pit off the far end of the Nydeggbrücke actually contains four bears, including two young. And we saw one of the bigger bears, I supposed.

I saw there were names on the ground, not sure what is that for, but interesting.

On our way to Zermatt, we drove past Marche, where we had lunch. It was a lunch with great view. Unlike in Singapore, when we said great view, it often means, city view or urban view. In fact, right in front of the restaurant, we enjoyed panoramic view of the river, the mountain and blue sky. Having stay in a city for my entire life, I yearned for a tranquil one, imagine this, sipping aromatic coffee, far away from the hustle bustle of city life. If you want me to name a place that is close to the description of heaven, I bet this will be the place.

We had horse meat, rosti, soup and blackforest cake.

The ticket to Zermatt. Zermatt is a municipality in the district of Visp in the German-speaking section of the canton of Valais in Switzerland. It is also a car-free city, to prevent air pollution which could obscure the town's view of the Matterhorn. The entire town is a combustion-engine car-free zone.

To me, Zermatt is more of a tourist spot. There are many places selling branded watches.

The tip of Matterhorn - an isolated mountain. It looks like an Egypt Pyramid.

We also visited the Castle Chateau Chillon. The Château de Chillon (Chillon Castle) is located on the shore of Lake Léman in the commune of Veytaux, at the eastern end of the lake, 3 km from Montreux, Switzerland. No words can explain the beauty of this place.

We drove to Geneva and visited the Broken Chair, Palais desk Nations, which is the European headquarters of the United Nations. The Flower Clock that reflects Geneva's heritage and undisputed leadership in watch making. We didn't have much to do except to sit around and drink coffee, because all the shops were closed on Sunday.

Next up, rounding up the trip with Paris and hefty cum sinful purchases.
