The Inception

The Inception...
is all about getting you to fall in love with Leonardo Dicaprio once again. I suspect. I am not kidding. I realized that I am back in love with him once more (not that I ever left him). Call this a fetish, but I LOVE his voice, just so charming to me. I never miss any Leonardo Dicaprio’s movies, because he is pretty selective in his roles for film and Inception is simply, mind-blowing.

Mind-stimulating, mind-boggling, that’s why I love this movie so much. I knew there must have been like 80% of the Singapore population who already watched this movie and the reviews were already out on the papers for months. But who cares.

In fact, how many times do you storm out of the theatre cursing and bewailing to your poor suffering companion, “What the hell is the movie about?” I have to admit that I don’t understand the story of the movie Matrix and its sequel after sitting through the movie for hours, and likewise for some of the sci-fi movies. Those movies are too damn intricate that only the those who score A1 in English will understand the plot.

I have to try my best not to neglect the director of the movie, of course, he, being the architect of the movie, makes us all comprehend the concept of inception despite its complexity. Yet, we can still follow through the movie knowing what is going on and what is going to happen next. And along the line of inception, I think that is a highly possible procedure that can happen to any one of us, and I don’t think the movie is just a fiction. The human brain is so complex that no scientist can be certain that what they have written on the human brain is comprehensive.

Apart from the eye-candy and the plot, I actually love movies that ended with a big question mark. Very in line with the concept of the movie, the finale of the show makes you wonder if the totem ever stop spinning. For me, I imagined that it will stop, for obvious reason because I adore Dicaprio. As for Kev, he deduced that the totem will not stop because there should be a part 2. However, I heard from my colleague P that he read up on the internet that the totem seemed to stop spinning when the movie credits start to appear on screen. Which ever the case, I choose what I want to believe in, and that is the beauty of such movie. We can leave in our own delusion, unless there is a sequel to the movie.

No matter how much I worship Dicaprio, I do not wish to have a sequel to this movie because the ending is just too perfect for a sequel.
I love this movie.

This is not something we can get from the asian directors, because they just can't deviate much from police and theives themes.

Case 39

Movie-going is usually the last activity on a mother’s to-do list, probably after, tucking her kid to sleep, amuse the kid, feed the kid, dance with the kid etc. However, lately, Kevin and I have been very privileged. I have my in law to look after Ziv for us during the weekday and so Kevin and I have ample time after work, and obviously I am ‘not used’ to working OT after all these years. Sometimes, we run out of idea of what we should do after dinner and then we go back to our pre Ziv days. Pre Ziv days means more time for leisure and one of the activities includes hitting the cinemas. I was given some complimentary movie tickets from American Express and they have been in my wallet for the past half year and just recently again, another pair from Standard Chartered, it seemed that I can never be able to utilize them completely, no matter how hard I try. Cause most of the time, we end up purchasing our own tickets because we decided to deviate from the designated cinemas for these free tickets due to full house for the blockbusters.

Back to movies and cinemas, another key reason why I haven’t been patronizing the cinemas lately is due to the movie pricings, they confounded me, vastly. The thing is, since when did movie ticket pricings varies from different cinemas, and since when there are different rates for adults, kids, senior citizens, students and lastly, since when that even the day of visiting the cinemas matters in terms of dollars and cents? I simply don’t fathom.

And one more thing, since when the cheapo gassy drinks and air popped popcorn cost more than an extra value meal plus upsize at Macdonald’s and they are just snacks.

I tell myself, no free tickets, and no movies.

Back to my original intent of this post, I wanted to tell you about Case 39. Since the free tickets are expiring end of this year and I think there won’t be other movie coming out soon that has nothing to do with Christmas, I decided to go for the not-so-popular movie, Case 39. This movie sends chills down my spine.

The last movie that made me covered my ears and eyes in the theatre for a good ¾ of the show was, Audition. And man, that was a waste of time and moolahs. Case 39 is slightly better, I covered my eyes and ears throughout ¼ of the show and joined the 2 other gals sitting next to me and made some really scary yells at fellow audience. The show was mentally disturbing and I hope it is not a true story retold. This show is great to watch if you want to take a break from the typical Japanese, Korean and Thai horror. It actually sends the entire theatre of people to stop breathing for quite a few scenes. It is worth watching than Ninja Assassin though I haven’t see it, cause having yourself breathing hard is better than having Rain to do the breathing. I don’t fancy him.

2012

I am the kind of person who digs catastrophic movies. And very often, after watching these movies, they have lots of repercussion on me. I cried a bucket when I watched ‘Armageddon’, I had nightmare after watching ‘End of the World’. As for ‘2012’, I am more positive. I did not cry. I reflected. And a lot.

There are many articles about Apocalypse and whatnot and seriously I am not bothered by any of them. Not that my fear for death is lessen as time goes by (somewhat true). But I know one thing, everything will come to an end one day, and after the end of something, there will be a new beginning. That is always my philosophy in life for everything and anything. Just like people die, and after death, it may be a new beginning of a new life, such as reborn. I reflected a lot on my life.
Such as –
Shall I buy myself another Birkin bag?
Shall I buy that FM watch?
The dinner tonight at il Lido is definitely worth it despite of the price.
Have I recently said ‘I Love You’ to Kevin?
Where is our next travel destination for next year and how many months is it going to be?
If everything is going to be like the movie 2012, no one in Singapore (I believed, except you-know-who) is affluent enough to get on the Ark and if given a chance to sneak into the Ark, I will probably put Ziv before me, and let him sneak up the Ark himself and pass him my iphone, tell him to look at the pictures in the phone whenever he thinks of Mummy and Daddy (since we are definitely be gone by then). In short, I am willing to give up my life for my son.

I was thinking, so what if you are one of the wealthiest man in Singapore, who cares if you have special abilities such as driving your Lamborghinis with your toes, extremely good in math, ultimately, you have to die with the rest of the less wealthy people and talented people. The thing is, Singapore is too infinitesimal to get noticed for talent (porn stars not included). Maybe those richer ones will die a few minutes to hours later, because they struggled to get to the peak of Bt Timah hill or they get on a plane to nowhere and probably die from a plane crash due to lack of fuel.

What I want in life now is experience. The experience of being able to buy something I like, the experience of enjoying high life. I don’t care if Ziv is ever going to make use of what he will be learning in The Shichidah Kindergarten, I don’t care if paying the exorbitant (and some said outrageous) school fee is going to be worth-while for his life later, what I want is, Ziv being able to experience the unique learning techniques applied to their syllabus.

Of course, after all the said and done, that doesn’t mean I have to fritter all my money away on something which I do not need or mindlessly, but I think that being contented in life and not having regrets is the key to living. I don’t want to be running away from a giant Tsunami and still complaining, “Shit! I haven’t try this and haven’t try that!”

We still have to keep a good amount of money for savings just in case the day do not come, or come much later after our death.

Go watch 2012. You will see life differently, perhaps.

Taken

I contemplated a little when one of my colleagues handed me the "Taken" DVD, he specifically tell me to watch it before going to Paris. The rest of the colleagues parroted in French accent, “Taxiz isz veryz expensivez inz Parisz, wantz toz share?” it was followed by roar of laughter. I wondered why they burst into laughter but anyway, one of the concerned colleagues told me to beware, not to share taxi with any strangers. And so I nodded. Apparently, I wasn’t intrigue by the plot and 100% not enthusiastic about the movie when I peer at the casts list. Liam Neeson, the lead actor is old enough to be my grandpa, I thought.

The DVD was in my bag for the entire last week and I watched it once in the car, but it was kind of jerky (you should know why) and hence, I chucked it aside until my colleague reminded me again to watch it, then I finally screened it on our TV and watched it with Kevin.

Guess what?

The movie blown me away!

Maybe, to begin with, I watched this movie with no expectation and had no idea about the synposis, and to my astonishment, it turned out to be a brillant movie which I haven't seen in the past few years. Although there are some loop holes in the movie, but who cares? I have to admit that I am an action flick junkie and this one has some American humour peppered throughout the show and I LOVE American humour, better than French (I personally think).

Liam Neeson is simply perfect, maybe I am a mother and hence I can feel for him in the movie for the fact that his daughter was kidnapped and he had to get her back within 96 hours.

I give the movie 8 out of 10 stars!

Watch it!!
